Farmers for Climate Action is a movement of farmers, agricultural leaders and rural Australians working to ensure farmers are a key part of the solution to climate change.

The only farmer-led organisation that specialises in climate action, we work across the agricultural and climate sectors to manage risks and find opportunities to adapt to, and mitigate, climate change.

Our theory of change is simple. We believe that if we organise farmers, graziers and industry representatives, to lead climate solutions on-farm and advocate together, we can influence our sector and the government to implement climate policies that reduce pollution and benefit rural communities.

We approach our work with a few key principles
  • We are evidence-based and informed by the best available science. We are collaborative, inclusive and respectful. We embrace the diversity and wisdom of farming communities, and are a trusted, non-partisan voice for stakeholders across government and the broader community. We link the best experts in the lab with the best experts in the field.
  • We are independent and work across the political spectrum: we are committed to bringing about multi-partisan political support for climate action.
  • We empower farmers to take the lead on climate action in their communities and electorates, and are committed to helping farmers learn more about climate science and policy, and the roles they can play. We help them communicate with the public about climate change. This is critical as farmers are frequently recognised as some of the most trusted voices on climate change.
  • We are sustainable and are committed to being here for the long haul through being ecologically, financially and socially responsible.

Our work is divided across four key areas

farmer education and training

We are working to ensure farmers have the tools they need to remain profitable and sustainable long-term as the challenges of a changing climate, including extreme weather risk, come to bear.

We support industry and political leaders to champion climate action, and drive the development of a fully-funded and implemented national strategy for climate change and agriculture.

building farmer networks

We are working to ensure that farmers have the tools they need to adapt to, and mitigate, climate change. A key part of this is ensuring they have the right political framework.

partnerships across industry and research

We are committed to helping the leaders of Australian agriculture become champions for climate action.
