- FCA welcomes NSW Renewable Energy Transmission Guide
- The guide is created to inform farmers and members of rural communities involved in clean energy projects
- FCA supports clean energy projects that invest in local communities
Farmers for Climate Action has welcomed the NSW Renewable Energy and Transmission Guide, launched by NSW Farmers and the NSW Government today and developed in collaboration with the Queensland Farmers Federation.
The guide aims to help farmers and neighbours be better informed as they continue to consider offers from clean energy companies and deal with their contractors as well as government agencies.
The NSW Renewable Energy and Transmission Guide includes:
- Information for landowners considering hosting renewable energy projects, supporting them through negotiations and agreements with renewable energy developers.
- Guidance about the processes involved in transmission design, planning and delivery.
- Information about each party’s roles, rights and responsibilities.
FCA CEO Natalie Collard said it was brilliant to see NSW Farmers leading on clean energy in a constructive way, given Australian farmers are expected to pocket $1 billion in clean energy rent payments between now and 2030.
“Farming communities deserve constructive leadership,” Ms Collard said.
“We applaud NSW Farmers for this constructive piece of work on making the energy shift run smoothly, done in conjunction with the NSW Government and Queensland Farmers Federation.
“NSW farmers are expected to make between $290 million and $371 million from drought-proof clean energy rent between now and 2030, so farmers can’t afford to miss out on this kind of opportunity. Clean energy makes farmland more profitable and productive, giving the farmer a drought-proof, second income from the land as they continue to run cattle, sheep or crops.
“With more and more research showing 17% opposition and 71% support for clean energy projects on local farmland, farmer representatives realise we need to make sure the energy shift delivers for local communities.
“There are valid questions which need to be respected and answered around nature, neighbour payments and community benefits funds. FCA supports clean energy projects which support local communities and are kind to nature.”
